This is some of the most brilliant photography I've ever seen. I love the sedated/muted color next to the bright pops of richly saturated color, and interesting compositions. Lately, I've been really interested in the colors and textures that can be found in photo's taken of African body modification, as well as in photos of African fashion and costume. This photographer captures those colors so beautifully. I have to score a copy of this picture book.

Meet Pinar Yolacan, a turkish designer who earned a BA in fashion design at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London; a BA in Fine Art Media from the Chelsea School of Art and Design in London; and a BFA from Cooper Union School of Art in New York.

"In speaking of her project, Maria (pictured above), in November, 2007, Yolacan states: This project was produced in the island of Ithaparica, Bahia, off the northeastern coast of Brazil. The island is about forty minute boat ride away from Brazil's third biggest city Salvador, which was once the largest port of slave trade in the new world. For this project I photographed Afro-Brazilian women who lived on the island. Their ages vary between 27-90. In this series, titled ‘Maria', there are twenty-two photographs...The women's garments are made out of fabric I bought in local fabric stores and of placenta and other animal parts that I bought in Salvador's São Joaquim market. I was particularly interested in placenta because it's a female organ that develops during birth. Most of the clothes are inspired from the Baroque era and Portuguese colonial style architecture in Salvador. There is also lots of draping - similar to biblical statues."

Dear,

I apologize for being out of commission for so long, but I appreciate all of your comments. I'm inspired again to continue blogging. I've recently been introduced to a ton of blog worthy artists and designers. I find that when I blog, actively, I maintain an inspired mentality and it helps me discover new aesthetics and ideas. I promise not to take such long leave again, without first giving notice :P

I've been meeting such amazing people lately. I've joined a knitting, crochet, and string art club at a boutique here in Hollywood called ARTSTRING. It's owned by brilliant knitwear designer Emilie Odeile. She in turn, introduced me to Ellenor, a charming knit/crochet master who has already taught me so much about knitwear design. I've also had the pleasure of meeting Rick Castro, a brilliant bondage artist and stylist, who I will blog about soon. Amazing people. I'll be posting more of their work soon. I know you'll love it.

I was recently introduced to this young designer out of Serbia. Her name is Ivana Pilja. She's like a brilliant cross between Charlie Le Mindu and Gareth Pugh. I love the geometry and strong shoulders, and the way she plays with shape. You can tell from these runway photos that her work is beautifully constructed and tailored. I'm interested to see what she does next, as well as how she might play with different aesthetics. Check out her WEBSITE

I've been drooling over this picture from the Givenchy S/S 2011 menswear show.

I loved the look of the last half of the show where Tisci used taupe button up shirts, shorts, leggings and accessories to create a monochromatic look. I love how this taupe color looks like nude on caucasians and doesn't look nude on darker skin. I think it was Margiela though, that made me look at it as edgy.

So by a stroke of luck, I struck gold today when my grandma and I pumped it on down to one of the Out Of The Closet locations here in Hollywood. I found a ton of shit. A taupe colored goose down jacket with matching hardware, a pierre cardin button up with a mandarin collar in a slightly lighter shade, and I also found a DKNY trench, also in taupe.

All I need now is an expensive looking pair of slim fitting, pleated khaki shorts, and some taupe leggings. Since this jacket is kind of poofy, the slim look on the legs would be brilliant. Maybe my plum justin lacers would add the perfect pop of color.
